National Assembly and Czech Parliamentary Health Committee Delegations Meet

A delegation of the Health and Family Committee, headed by Prof. Dr Dusan Milisavljevic, Committee Chairman, and comprising Committee members Sanda Raskovic Ivic, Nebojsa Zelenovic and Vladimir Gordic, met today with a delegation of the Czech Parliament’s Health Committee, headed by Prof. Dr Ales Roztocil, Committee Deputy Chairman and delegation head.

Dusan Milisavljevic greeted the Czech parliamentarians on the behalf of the National Assembly and the Health and Family Committee, hoping that the meeting would mark the beginning of the two health committees’ future cooperation. Speaking of the Committee’s scope of work, Milisavljevic briefed the guests on past activities, the Committee’s legislative and monitoring role in particular, and on the health situation in Serbia. He opined that the sphere suffers from many problems, that both healthcare institutions and patients meet with many difficulties every day and that the allocations for healthcare are insufficient to ensure quality service. Milisavljevic stated that there are attempts to equalize the private and state-supported healthcare sector and introduce European standards of patient treatment and service payments into Serbia.
Ales Roztocil, the head of the Czech parliamentary delegation, informed the members of the Health and Family Committee about the situation and problems in the healthcare of Czech citizens, as well as the implementation of the European legislation in the sphere. He stressed that they are interested in the experience of both developed European countries and countries close to the Czech Republic, such as Serbia.
In the course of the meeting the officials exchanged opinions and experiences and shared information on the functioning of the healthcare system in Serbia and the Czech Republic, the citizens’ healthcare, equalization of private and state providers of healthcare services, selection of physicians and other issues. They agreed that meetings such as this one are very useful and that they will continue to cooperate.
