National Assembly Speaker’s Cabinet – Press Release

Regarding the press release of the Democratic Party of Serbia on the alleged deception of the public as regards the results of the public vote for the election of ministers of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, we would like to inform the public that the National Assembly Speaker had indeed suffered a slip of the tongue, saying that 51 MPs abstained when he in fact meant that 51 MPs were absent, which does not mean that there had been any intention to manipulate the results of the vote since, among other things, it could be clearly heard in the live TV broadcast how each and every one of the MPs voted and who was absent from the sitting.

Therefore, this was an unintentional error made late at night, after hours of debate. The number of MPs present in the hall is correctly represented. At the same time, the reasons why some of the MPs were absent should not be questioned nor should there be any speculation on how they would have voted if they had been present.

The National Assembly Speaker apologizes to the citizens of Serbia for his slip of the tongue.

We would also like to point out that all the data on the voting is accessible and the public can view it on the National Assembly’s website.

Speaker Stefanovic will continue to make sure that all the information relating to the work of both the National Assembly and the MPs for the duration of their term of office, remain transparent as they have been so far.
