The Serbian National Assembly Speaker began his visit with a meeting with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, after which he paid tribute to the Azerbaijani national leader by laying a wreath at the monument to Heydar Aliyev, followed by a formal reception arranged for Dr Orlic in the Milli Majlis, where he also attended the plenary session. After that, the Serbian National Assembly Speaker met with the Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker.

In the course of the meeting, the officials expressed satisfaction to be meeting again after Speaker Gafarova’s visit to Belgrade in May of this year, when the two heads of parliament confirmed their determination to continue with the dynamic cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

They agreed that the relations between the two countries are at the highest level ever, based on the mutual respect and trust of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. "This relationship between the two leaders lends strong impulse to the intensification and deepening of comprehensive bilateral relations and strategic cooperation, which our National Assembly also contributes to," said Dr Orlic.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis stressed that Azerbaijan sees Serbia as one of its closest friends in Europe, adding that Speaker Orlic’s visit to Baku is yet another confirmation of the close ties between the two countries. She said that in these challenging times for the whole world, Serbia and Azerbaijan should continue their unquestionable, mutual support and jointly defend the principles of public international law.

Dr Orlic thanked Gafarova for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, informing her in detail about the terror carried out against the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, the brutal campaign of ethnic cleansing and the overall extremely difficult situation in the southern province, for which the sole culprit, he emphasised, is Albin Kurti. He added that Serbia will remain on the side of truth, law and the preservation of peace, which is necessary for the comprehensive progress of our country to continue.

In the course of the meeting, the officials discussed the possibilities for the two countries’ joint work in numerous areas. The heads of parliament confirmed their mutual determination to continue their dynamic communication and exchange of visits in the future.
