National Assembly Speaker Visits China

China remains consistent in its support of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the Chinese policy counts on cooperation with the Western Balkans, said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic in Beijing, heading the parliamentary delegation visiting China at the invitation of the Chairman of China's National People's Congress Wu Bangguo.


National Assembly Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic talked to the Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping who stressed that China remains firm in its position regarding Serbia’s sovereignty and integrity. In the meeting with the Chinese Vice President on the prospects for the relations between the two countries, the Serbian delegation stated that Serbia wishes to be the center of the strategic relations between the Balkans and China.

In his hour-long meeting with Djukic-Dejanovic, Xi Jinping, who has spent the last two years preparing for the post of Chinese President and secretary of the Communist Party of China, said that Serbia and China are “timeless friends” which was confirmed in 2009 by the establishment of strategic partnership.

The Serbian Assembly Speaker started her return visit to China, at the invitation of the Chairman of China's National People's Congress Wu Bangguo, by meeting with He Guoqiang, member the Politburo of the Chinese CCCP and Secretary General of the Commission for Discipline and Inspection of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, who stressed that the two countries already enjoy excellent cooperation which he hopes would continue to develop.

The Serbian Assembly’s delegation comprises members of parliament Velimir Ilic, Meho Omerovic, Jorgovanka Tabakovic, Jelena Trivan, Branko Ruzic, Dragan Todorovic, Nikola Lazic, as well as Secretary General Veljko Odalovic.

The parliamentary delegation visiting China is accompanied by an economic delegation as a precursor of the Inter-state Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation between Serbia and China planned for October.
