National Assembly Speaker Opens CEI PD Parliamentary Committee Meeting

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, opened the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of the Central European Initiative Parliamentary Dimension, which begins the active phase of the Republic of Serbia's chairmanship of the Central European Initiative in 2025.

"Serbia is proud to have the opportunity to chair this, the oldest regional initiative in Southeast Europe, which has been affirming the values of cooperation, dialogue and solidarity for 36 years," said Brnabic. She emphasised that Serbia's chairmanship is an expression of its strong commitment to European integration, as well as proof of its readiness to advance regional cooperation for the benefit of all the citizens living in this region.

"That is precisely why, in coordination with our Hungarian partners, we have decided to take over the chairmanship in 2025, which represents for us not only an opportunity, but also a responsibility to demonstrate that our commitment to the EU is unquestionable, and that in times of global challenges, regional connectivity is the most effective response.

"Europe is facing new security, energy and institutional challenges, and the citizens' trust in international mechanisms is constantly being tested. In such an environment, Serbia remains consistent, independent in decision-making, but deeply aware of the responsibility it bears as a key actor of stability in the Western Balkans," the National Assembly Speaker believes.

She stressed that Serbia wants to be a voice of reason, a reliable partner and a connecting factor between different interests, and that in accordance with these principles, its chairmanship will be focused on specific priorities that reflect both regional needs and European goals: the European integration process, the development of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, infrastructural connectivity and migration management.

"In recent years, we have shown that we know how to talk, to initiate dialogue even when it seems impossible, and to respect diversity as a prerequisite for lasting stability.

"We are working with special attention to improving the parliamentary dimension of the CEI, and the National Assembly will remain an active partner in creating policies that bring the CEI member states closer, not push them further apart," Brnabic concluded.
