National Assembly Speaker Meets with UK Special Envoy to Western Balkans

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with the UK Special Envoy to the Western Balkans Lord Stuart Peach.

Brnabic and Lord Peach discussed the current situation in the Western Balkans and the geopolitical relations in Europe and the World. They underlined that peace and stability are key preconditions for growth and development, with Brnabic stressing that Serbia is fully committed to them.

Speaking of Serbia’s positive economic successes, Lord Peach mentioned how challenging it is for individual economies to progress if the region is stagnating and not unified.

They concluded that the bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom are good, but there is ample room for further expansion. As a good example they mentioned the first UN-Western Balkans trade conference held in November in Belgrade and the fact that the bilateral trade between Serbia and the UK at the annual level had for the first time exceeded one million pounds. Brnabic stressed that it is important to conduct regular political dialogue and that meetings between Serbia and the UK’s highest dignitaries are exceptionally important because they contribute to the further deepening of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The National Assembly Speaker added that parliamentary cooperation is an important area of cooperation and welcomed the appointment of the new head of the UK House of Commons All-Party Parliamentary Group with Serbia, MP Morton.
