National Assembly Speaker Meets with Spanish Congress Speaker
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Maja Gojkovic, met today, in Madrid, with the Speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies Jesus Maria Posada Moreno, to discuss the improvement of relations between the two countries, Serbia’s Euro-integration and economic cooperation.
Posada said that Spain continues to support Serbia’s European integration, adding that this path is in Serbia’s interest. He stressed that the strong support of Serbia’s Euro-integration is also important for the negotiation process between Serbia and the EU.
The National Assembly Speaker thanked Spain for its principled support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, saying that Belgrade is committed to the implementation of the Brussels Agreement and dialogue with Pristina, while Posada said that Spain’s stance on Kosovo is firm and that it would always defend the same position.
Gojkovic informed Speaker Posada about the reforms Serbia is conducting in the field of economy, pointing out that the National Assembly had passed a great many reform laws aimed at improving the business environment and invited Spain to invest more into Serbia.
The Spanish Congress Speaker commended the reforms Serbia is conducting at its own initiative, which, he said, bring the country ever closer to the European Union.
Gojkovic stressed that the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Spain could be further improved both at the parliamentary and economic level.
Gojkovic and Posada also talked about the problem of migrants which the European countries have to contend with and the challenges in the fight against terrorism.
Gojkovic also met with the First Deputy Speaker of the Spanish Senate.
