National Assembly Speaker Meets with Newly-Appointed Chinese Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic welcomed the newly-appointed Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Li Ming with, wishing him a successful mandate.

At the very beginning of the meeting, Dr Orlic took the opportunity to once again congratulate the Republic of China on its Founding Day, noting that Ambassador Li is taking office in the year that marks one decade of the Belt and Road Initiative. In that regard, he emphasised the great importance the announced visit of President Aleksandar Vucic to Beijing has for Serbia and his participation in the Third International Cooperation Forum within the Initiative, in the course of which a large number of important bilateral agreements will be signed, most notably the Free Trade Agreement.

He said that the relations between China and Serbia are based on mutual understanding, trust and steel friendship, established thanks to the presidents of the two countries, Aleksandar Vucic and Xi Jinping.

Dr Orlic thanked the People's Republic of China for its firm, principled position regarding the preservation of our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, at the same time expressing Serbia's support for the "One China" policy. He said that China and Serbia are strongly and consistently on the side of respecting public international law and UN principles.

The National Assembly Speaker went on to inform the guest about the extremely difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija. "It is vital to urgently end the terror carried out by Albin Kurti against the Serbian people in our southern province, to stop the terrible campaign of ethnic cleansing and to preserve the peace that is threatened solely by Kurti's fault. By defending peace and stability, Serbia wants to continue the dynamic development of the economy, infrastructure and investments. In these and all other areas, we are ready to cooperate with our strategic partners, as well as steel friends from the People's Republic of China," said Dr Orlic.

In the course of the meeting, Ambassador Li said that the People's Republic of China continues to strongly support Serbia in all the most important issues, primarily in respecting its territorial integrity and sovereignty. He pointed out that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, will at every opportunity and in every place advocate justice, respect for the principles which the UN is based on and be unequivocally against hegemony and power politics. He also stressed that, during his mandate, he stands ready to contribute to the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, adding that the announced visit of President Vucic to Beijing is yet another confirmation of the friendly bilateral relations that will offer significant opportunities to deepen the partnership between the two countries.
