National Assembly Speaker Meets with Indian President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the President of the Republic of India Droupadi Murmu, with whom in the course of the meeting he confirmed the traditionally friendly ties between the two countries and two peoples, based on mutual respect, understanding and support.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia said that the arrival of President Murmu in Belgrade is a great honour for our country and the fact that Serbia is the first European country she has visited since taking office is a special privilege. He pointed out that Serbia is proud of its decades-long partnership with India and that the National Assembly is determined to continue contributing to overall cooperation and further strengthening of friendship. "You will hear the same message from everyone in Serbia - both from the President of the Republic and from our Government, as well as from the citizens of our country," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Dr Orlic thanked India for its principled and firm stance on the issue of non-recognition of so-called "Kosovo", and the fact that, together with Serbia, it advocates consistent respect for public international law and the UN Charter. "Rest assured that India can count on our friendship and support - always and everywhere," stressed the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

In the course of the meeting, Murmu confirmed India's readiness to strengthen the partnership with Serbia in all spheres of mutual importance, as well as its commitment to the further development of interparliamentary cooperation at all levels. She expressed her belief that, cooperation on the multilateral level will continue based on friendship and mutual support. She also pointed out that the two countries share positions on the most important issues and, in that regard, underlined the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every state in the world.

The National Assembly Speaker and the Indian President concluded the meeting once again expressing mutual strong determination for further joint work in all areas where there are potentials and opportunities for it.
