National Assembly Speaker Meets with Czech Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Serbia Tomas Kuchta to discuss the further strengthening of bilateral relations, which were declared excellent, grounded in the two peoples’ friendship and closeness.

Dr Orlic underlined the importance of Czech President Milos Zeman’s recent farewell visit to the Republic of Serbia and the signing of the Agreement on the Development of Cultural Cooperation, as well as the opening of the "Czech House" in Belgrade. "You also heard the message of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and our entire nation stands behind those words. In the words of our President: Mr Zeman is a statesman of such a format that he represents a real treasure for the country that has him and elected him. President Zeman's famous words on the subject of Kosovo-Metohija are sincerely appreciated and will be remembered by everyone in Serbia," said Dr Orlic.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia thanked the Czech Republic for supporting Serbia on its path to Europe, which, stressed, is burdened by the issue of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. "It is clear to everyone that our role has been constructive the entire time, however, it was encountered by a deliberate generation of problems by the other side. We expect support from everyone for the preservation of the security of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, honouring of the signed agreements and finally, the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities which we have been waiting for ten years. We consider Pristina's aspirations for membership in the CE and EU unacceptable, as if seeking a reward for its brazen behaviour and denial of the accepted and signed agreements," said Dr Orlic, adding that Belgrade continues to pursue a policy of peace and stability for all.

Ambassador Kuchta expressed hope that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina would result in the implementation of the agreements reached so far, including the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities. He praised the openness and responsibility shown by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic within the dialogue.

In the course of the meeting, the officials expressed willingness to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation, both through the exchange of visits at all levels and through the contributions of the working bodies, committees and the activities of parliamentary friendship groups.

The also welcomed cooperation in the field of investments, with Ambassador Kuchta confirming his readiness to continue his personal commitment to the promotion of Serbia as an excellent investment destination. They also spoke of strengthening economic cooperation, primarily by increasing the volume of trade, which, they agreed, has been setting records year after year.
