National Assembly Speaker Meets with Bundestag Member

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with member of the German Bundestag Peter Beyer.

The two officials discussed closer cooperation between the Serbian Assembly and Bundestag, stressing that it is important that the two countries have good relations and agreeing that parliamentary cooperation could play a significant role in it.

Beyer congratulated the National Assembly Speaker on her new post and wished her success going forward, stressing that his foreign policy focus is on the countries of the Western Balkans and their accession to the European Union.

The National Assembly Speaker said that she would continue to insist on dialogue with the opposition parties in the parliament, saying that though there are a lot of challenges and disagreements, it is vital to maintain its continuity after the elections for the benefit of the entire society. The first results of the dialogue are the formation of the Assembly bodies that work on advancing the electoral process and implementation of the ODIHR recommendations.

Brnabic said that Belgrade remains committed to the dialogue with Pristina, that it is essential to ensure the safety of the Serbian populace and without any further ado implement all the obligations of the agreements reached so far because if not the dialogue loses all meaning.

The officials agreed that instability in the region is not good for anyone, referring to current events.

Brnabic said that she was especially pleased that this visit comes on the day a new German investment is being realised, adding that she was especially grateful to the German companies that employ over 80,000 Serbian citizens.

The meeting was attended by National Assembly Deputy Speaker and European Integration Committee Chairperson Elvira Kovacs and the Director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Office Jakov Devcic.
