National Assembly Speaker Meets with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov.

The officials expressed pleasure to be meeting so soon again after their meeting during the Serbian Assembly Speaker’s recent visit to Baku. They noted that the relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan are based on strategic partnership and sincere friendship thanks primarily to the two presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Ilham Aliyev. They also praised the exceptional cooperation concerning infrastructure and many other areas, as well as the dynamic political dialogue at all levels.

In the course of the meeting, Dr Orlic and Bayramov noted that Serbia and Azerbaijan consistently respect the fundamental principles of international law, with Minister Bayramov using the opportunity to once again confirm that the Republic of Azerbaijan indisputably supports our country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and that its stance on non-recognition of so-called “Kosovo” would not change, which Dr Orlic thanked him for, adding that Serbia also deeply appreciates Azerbaijan’s clear position expressed before the Council of Europe. “When it comes to respecting the same principles, you can always count on Serbia’s support”, said Dr Orlic

The Serbian Assembly Speaker took the opportunity to inform Minister Bayramov in detail about the extremely difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija. “Not only is Albin Kurti not ceasing the terror against the Serbian people, he is escalating it. At the same time, he refuses to continue the dialogue, which calls for a clear denouncement from all global actors”, said Orlic adding: “Our state positions are clear and expressed in the words of the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic: we are dedicated to peace, stability for all and committed to dialogue. Simultaneously, we will at all times respect our Constitution, our country and fight for our people. We are grateful to friendly Azerbaijan for understanding this perfectly.”

Minister Bayramov praised Serbia’s state policy – sovereign and autonomous, something which, he stressed, few countries can boast of. He also praised our country’s economic and infrastructural achievements and the efforts invested in preserving peace in the region. He stressed that Azerbaijan stands ready to continue to cooperate with its Serbian fiends and even intensify joint work in the fields of pharmacy, agriculture, modern technologies. “I am certain that my visit and our personal commitment would lend strong impulse to any further advancements and yield concrete results in the future”, said Bayramov.
