National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic Receives Indonesian Parliament House of Representatives Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Indonesian Parliament Puan Maharani.

On the occasion, Speaker Brnabic expressed her pleasure at having the opportunity to host a high delegation from Indonesia in Serbia, stressing that this meeting provides a unique opportunity to exchange opinions on how to further develop our traditionally friendly relations.

"Diplomatic relations between Serbia and Indonesia were established in 1954 and this year we are marking 70 years since that event," said the Speaker.

She added that Serbia considers Indonesia a great friend and an important partner, with which it shares common values and has excellent bilateral relations, and that this visit provides a significant incentive for the further improvement of the traditionally close relations and comprehensive cooperation between our countries, reminding that the newly elected President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, visited Serbia in July of this year.

The Serbian National Assembly Speaker emphasised that Serbia is deeply committed to further strengthen its bilateral relations with Indonesia and that she hopes that with joint efforts and through parliamentary cooperation, they will contribute to the improvement of overall relations between our two countries.

She also pointed out that at the ASEAN summit in Jakarta, Serbia signed a document on accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAS), which is an important step in the further improvement of economic cooperation.

In 2023, Indonesia became Serbia's most important foreign trade partner within ASEAN in terms of the volume of trade and individual imports, while in terms of the value of our exports to ASEAN, it is in seventh place.

At the end of the meeting, Speaker Brnabic took the opportunity to once again express her gratitude to Indonesia for the continuous support and valuable assistance during the process of joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and congratulated it on the successful chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023.
