National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic Meets with Syrian Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met with the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic Muhammad Haj Ibrahim.

Ambassador Ibrahim congratulated Speaker Brnabic on her assumption of the new post and wished her success.

In the course of the meeting Brnabic thanked Syria for its principled and consistent support of Serbia in the preservation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. She stressed that the relations between the two countries are traditionally friendly and that these ties should be strengthened in the future.

Brnabic also stressed that the situation is Syria is being closely followed and that she is prepared to, as much as she can, support the friendly people of Syria. Ambassador Ibrahim thanked her for all the support, especially after the devastating earthquake which additionally fortified the friendly relations between the two countries.

The National Assembly Speaker highlighted Serbia’s interest in developing parliamentary cooperation with Syria, adding the current National Assembly legislature is expected to set up a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Syria.

The officials concluded that the two countries are bound by a longstanding sincere friendship based on mutual understanding and solidarity. Both sides expressed readiness to further cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
