National Assembly Deputy Speaker Vesna Kovac Talks to NATO Parliamentary Assembly Delegation

Today, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Vesna Kovac met with the delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Political Committee (Sub-Committee on NATO Partnerships), headed by Marit Nybakk, Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on NATO Partnerships.


Greeting the delegation comprising parliamentarians from ten countries, on the behalf of the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker Vesna Kovac emphasised the excellent cooperation the National Assembly standing delegation enjoys with the NATO PA, which is a confirmation of the continuously good cooperation with the international organisation’s member states. Vesna Kovac briefed the NATO PA members on the current political and security situation in the Republic of Serbia, Serbia’s progress in the European integration process and relations in the region. She also spoke of the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, saying she expected KFOR to remain the key factor guaranteeing the safety of Serbs and other non-Albanian population.
Sub-Committee Chairperson Marit Nybakk endorsed the opinion that it is important for NATO to remain in Kosovo and commended Serbia’s efforts toward beginning the application of the Brussels Agreement on Kosovo. She also drew attention to the importance of regional stability, deeming that Serbia has achieved considerable progress in its relations with the neighbouring countries. She also said that Serbia’s approach to the European Union could lay the grounds for regional economic growth and be an incentive for economic cooperation between the Western Balkan states.
