National Assembly Deputy Speaker Stefan Krkobabic met today with the delegation of Bijeljina City Hall to exchange experiences of governance at the local and national level.

Krkobabic welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the National Assembly’s regular session, stating that since the beginning of the 12th legislature the Assembly has adopted 98 bills and that the pandemic has not slowed down the operation of the executive and legislative power. He added that the National Assembly has shown that it is the center of dialogue, open to everyone who wants to participate in it. He expressed special gratitude to the member of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Aleksandar Djurdjev who played an important role in the meeting between the Deputy Speaker and the Bijeljina delegation.

Milenko Mitrovic, Deputy Speaker of the Bijeljina City Hall, said that the local elections in Bijeljina were uncertain, and the party he is from - the Movement for Bijeljina, founded in 2018 by young and ambitious people from Bijeljina, won one seat in the 2020 elections, adding that the party belongs to the current majority in this city. Mitrovic stated that he has been elected member of the City Hall for the fourth time, and added that it is the Movement’s ambition to run in the republic elections as well. The Deputy Speaker of the Bijeljina City Hall took the opportunity to point out the significant assistance sent by the Republic of Serbia, headed by President Aleksandar Vucic, and the highway project which pave the way for future investments in the Republic of Srpska. This project will strengthen the already established ties between the Republic of Srpska and the Republic of Serbia.

The delegation was also greeted by MP Dragan M. Markovic who congratulated the Movement for Bijeljina on its success, saying that the best way to erase territorial borders is to invest in joint projects.

The officials also discussed the high degree of unity, common prosperity and interests of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.

At the end of the meeting, Mitrovic invited the National Assembly Deputy Speaker to visit Bijeljina and the Republic of Srpska in order to continue to improve cooperation, and the Assembly Deputy Speaker pointed out that such meetings should become common practice so that shared interests can become more visible.
