National Assembly Deputy Speaker Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic Meets with Latvian Foreign Minister

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkevičs, currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia.


Speaking of Serbia’s European integration process, Deputy Speaker Marinkovic stressed that the National Assembly had reached consensus regarding European Union accession and thanked Minister Rinkevičs for Latvia’s support of the EU enlargement policy.

Serbia is ready to conduct fundamental political and economic reforms in order to reach European standards, said Marinkovic drawing attention to the recently passed EP Resolution supporting Serbia’s further European integration process.

As regards the relations between Belgrade and Pristina, Deputy Speaker Marinkovic said that Serbia has a constructive approach to the dialogue aimed at improving the quality of living of all the people in Kosovo-Metohija and maintaining stability in the region, which is one of Serbia’s foreign policy goals.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevičs urged to intensify parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Latvia and shared his support for the continued dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. He said Latvia was ready to convey its experiences of parliamentary oversight over the European integration process and underlined the importance of Serbia’s chairmanship of the OSCE in this very complex geopolitical moment.

The officials agreed that the economic cooperation between the two countries should be improved, while Deputy Speaker Marinkovic also suggested signing an investment protection agreement and invited Latvian entrepreneurs to invest into Serbia.
