The Fund, under the patronage of the Holy Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Cyril, is especially focused on the Balkan region, especially the Serbian department which plays a significant role in spreading orthodox unity, said Alexeev presenting the programmes the organisation has realised. He drew attention to the Fund’s award presented to prominent individuals, reminding that it was merited by the late Serbian Patriarch Pavle, Emir Kusturica, Novak Djokovic and others.
Alexeev said that in all international contacts the Fund representatives advocate Serbia’s political position from Kosovo-Metohija to all other current issues, announcing that the next conference of the Orthodox Christian Nations Unity Fund will be held in Nis, as part of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan.
Deputy Speaker Popovic thanked Alexeev for his visit to Serbia’s supreme legislative body, especially since the visit took place on Russia Day.
“The Fund’s activities span the entire world, but we are grateful that you almost always put Serbia first. The National Assembly and the MPs will take active part in the upcoming Fund conference in Nis and offer maximum support”, said Deputy Speaker Popovic asking Alexeev to convey the MPs’ warmest regards to Patriarch Cyril and their sincere wish that he visit Serbia.
The meeting between the National Assembly Deputy Speaker and the President of the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations was also attended by Prof. Dr Mileta Poskurica, MP and Head of the delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, and MPs Gorica Gajic and Petar Petkovic.
Before the meeting, Deputy Speaker Popovic and Valery Alexeev were received by His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia Irinej.
