National Assembly Delegation Takes Part in NATO PA Session in Varna

The members of the Standing Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) took part in the spring session of the organisation held from 27 to 30 May 2011 in Varna.

During the spring session the delegation had several bilateral meetings, inter alia with British parliamentarian John Sewell, rapporteur for the Economics and Security Committee. Sewell had prepared a draft report for the committee on “The Balkan Economies: Regional Roadblocks, Europe’s Distractions and Global Crisis”.

Our delegation took active part in the debate on the draft report so as to clarify certain facts and identify the legal and political aspects of the topics the report deals with. The rapporteur announced that our suggestions would be maximally included in the further work on the preparation of the report that should be adopted at the NATO PA autumn session in Bucharest.

During the session, the National Assembly delegation requested from the NATO PA parliamentarians to lend their support so that the allegations from Dick Marty’s Report on illegal trafficking in human organs in Kosovo-Metohija, adopted at the PACE, be fully investigated under the patronage of the United Nations. They also pointed out the need to take the allegations from the report into consideration when drafting other NATO PA documents.

The National Assembly delegation comprised: Nikola Lazic, acting delegation head, and members Bozidar Delic and Igor Becic.
