National Assembly Delegation Takes Part in NATO PA Annual Session

The standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, consisting of Ugljesa Mrdic, Dejan Radenkovic and Natasa Jovanovic, is taking part in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Annual Session in Copenhagen, 6 to 9 October 2023. In the course of the Annual Session, there will be meetings the Political Committee, Economics and Security Committee, Democracy and Security Committee, Defence and Security Committee and the Science and Technology Committee.

The main focus of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly session will be on NATO's response to the conflict in Ukraine, its impact on the security of the Black Sea region, as well as China's role, lessons learned, and steps in the restoration of transatlantic economic relations.

In the meeting of the Defence and Security Committee, Marina Vulovic, researcher at SWP International and Security Affairs, presented her work on the topic "Political and security challenges in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue", expressing her position on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the current situation with an emphasis on the latest events in Banjska. After her presentation, our delegation, namely Ugljesa Mrdic and Natasa Jovanovic, came forward to speak, with the Deputy Head of the delegation, Ugljesa Mrdic, saying: "The Republic of Serbia, headed by President Aleksandar Vucic, stands for a policy of peace and stability in the Western Balkans. We want Serbs, Albanians and all other peoples to live in peace and good relations in the area of Kosovo-Metohija. Kosovo-Metohija is our southern province and part of the Republic of Serbia. Serbia wants good partnership relations with NATO and the protection and security of our people in Kosovo-Metohija. Regarding the recent events in Kosovo-Metohija, I would like to say that we hope KFOR will take care of all security issues in the north of Kosovo-Metohija and guarantee the safety of all Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija. Serbia stands for the Open Balkans project and the preservation of peace and stability". Natasa Jovanovic said: "Serbia has fulfilled all of its obligations assumed by the Brussels Agreement. Let me underline that Serbia has not taken any step that would constitute a violation of the Brussels Agreement and Resolution 1244, because it has not threatened the preservation of peace in any way. The fragile peace that exists in Kosovo-Metohija is preserved thanks to the determination of the Serbian people, who make superhuman efforts to resist all the pressures of the regime in Pristina. The latest events at the end of September are clear indicators of Pristina's intention to make impossible any agreement with Belgrade and the normal life of Serbs in the north of Kosovo. In a situation where my people in the southern Serbian province of Kosovo-Metohija are being terrorized by Albin Kurti, who rejects any possibility of dialogue, by stating that he "does not want" to start drafting the statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities, he has clearly shown, so that everyone can see, that he is the one who does not want a compromise. The most important thing is that you know that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, is committed to the fight for preserving peace and stability and accelerating the development of Serbia and the entire Western Balkans. A question for you, how do you think the Serbs in the north of Kosovo-Metohija can be safe without the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities," Jovanovic pointed out.

At the plenary, the participants of the 69th NATO Parliamentary Assembly session will be addressed by high officials of the Alliance and the Kingdom of Denmark. There will also be a vote on the adoption of the proposed resolutions.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the delegation of the Republic of Serbia met with delegations from other countries and participated in a reception arranged for all the guests by His Excellency Mr Soren Gade, Speaker of the Parliament of Denmark.
