A special Assembly of the Vojvodina Journalists’ Society was held in Becej to mark the Society’s 60th anniversary; speaking at the Assembly, the Chairman of the National Assembly, Predrag Markovic, underlined that the key word in the Society’s name was “journalist”. Journalists are a part of society we live in. In order to live better, we must all work under equal principles, and “newspapers must look like newspapers”, Markovic concluded. “When you see crime reports or gossip on the title page, that means something is wrong and you are not living in an ordered society.” Mr Markovic said that we had to adopt standards for all professions, including the profession of journalist, while preserving our differences. “Becej is a place of such wonderful diversity, but Becej is not divided. You, your newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, are different in all respects. You have your history and others have theirs, and it is good that you should be different, because that is what makes life more beautiful. If Becej were divided, people would enjoy their differences, but they would not be able to live. Preserve what makes you different and do all you can to stop us from dividing”, Markovic said.
