NARS Speaker Presented with Sretenje Constitution Replica at Archives of Serbia

“The Archives of Serbia are a treasure trove of our history which should teach us about our present and future”, said the NARS Speaker Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic in her visit to the Archives today. The original Sretenje Constitution was displayed at the Archives of Serbia today in honour of the NARS Speaker. The Director of the Archives Miroslav Perisic ceremonially presented the NARS Speaker Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic with a replica of the Sretenje Constitution. Such a replica was only ever presented once before, to the President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadic.

“The original 1835 Sretenje Constitution is one of the Archives’ treasures. It is my special honour to have the privilege to return to the National Assembly House today bearing the gift you presented us with – a replica of the precious document”, said Djukic Dejanovic.

“In its home, the National Assembly House, supreme constitutional and legislative body, the replica of the Sretenje Constitution – which was extremely modern at the time it was passed – will be a constant reminder to the deputies and all our guests that all which was recently given by the European values paradigm is in the very foundation of our state; and also something more, that a specific spirituality is woven into the foundation of our state and the spirit of the people characterising us faithfully throughout our existence”, stressed the NARS Speaker.

From this day on, the replica of the Sretenje Constitution will be exhibited at the National Assembly House. NARS Speaker Slavica Djukic Dejanovic and Assembly Secretary General Veljko Odalovic laid it in the place where it will be kept.
