Members of Parliamentary Friendship Group with Iraq Meet with Iraqi Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Iraq, Oto Kismarton, and Parliamentary Friendship Group members Mirjana Marjanovic, Dr Aleksandar Radojevic and MA Vladimir Cvijan, met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Iraqi Ambassador to Serbia, Dr Falah Abdulhasan Abdulsada.

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, Oto Kismarton said that Iraq and Serbia enjoy a long-standing friendship and good cooperation which can, in the upcoming period, become even more successful, especially in the spheres of economy and culture. Speaking about improving relations between Serbia and other countries, Kismarton stressed that Serbia’s goal is both to join the EU and cooperate with all the countries and friends in the world.
The Iraqi Ambassador briefed the Parliamentary Friendship Group members on the current political and economic situation in Iraq, deeming it necessary to strengthen the two countries economic relations since the level of economic exchange between them is less than satisfactory. There is plenty of room to boost cooperation primarily in the economic, scientific and cultural sphere, and Iraq needs Serbia’s experience especially in the sphere of civil engineering because the country is currently undergoing reconstruction, said Ambassador Abdulsada. He invited Serbian companies to take part in the renewal of Iraq’s infrastructure, saying that their participation in Iraq’s large market is welcome due to their vast experience and the reputation they enjoy in the country’s economic circles.
Ambassador Abdulsada said that Iraq’s position regarding the talks between Belgrade and Pristina is clear and open, it remains unchanged and Iraq supports international law and international mechanisms, as well as the dialogue, adding that all problems should be resolved peacefully.
Speaking of parliamentary cooperation, he said that the Iraqi Parliament is yet to form a Serbia-Iraq parliamentary committee, which is expected to happen in the near future. Regarding the 55th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two countries, the Iraqi Ambassador announced that a series of activities will be organised to mark the occasion and invited the Parliamentary Friendship Group members to participate.
