Meho Omerovic and Zlata Djeric Take Part in Regional Conference in Ohrid

The Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, Meho Omerovic and the Chairperson of the Commission Monitoring the Execution of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Serbia (2010-2015), Zlata Djeric, took part in the regional conference titled: Ohrid Initiative – Strengthening the “1325 Community” in the Region, held on 11 and 12 May 2013 in Ohrid.


At the conference, the participants exchanged opinions on including women into the security sector in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security. They focused on the following issues: are the goals set by the national action plans for the implementation of the Resolution achievable, what is the implementation of the Resolution at the local level like, does the national action plan for the implementation of the Resolution comply with other national strategies such as the anti-discrimination strategy and poverty reduction strategy, do the values established by the Resolution contribute to building peace in the region. They also pointed out the need to intensify regional cooperation on these issues.

The conference was organised by the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence.
