Meeting of Members of Serbia and Azerbaijan PFGs

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Azerbaijan, headed by Dusan Maric, met with the delegation of the Azerbaijani National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia, headed by Malahat Ibrahimgizi.

Dusan Maric said that Serbia and Azerbaijan have built high-level political relations, based on respect for international law and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all UN member states. He also pointed to the excellent relations between the two presidents, Vucic and Aliyev, as well as the developed interparliamentary cooperation.

In the course of the meeting, Maric specifically referred to the difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija, indicating that the constant attacks and intimidation of Serbs aim to force an emigration of the Serbian population from Kosovo-Metohija, and thanked Azerbaijan for its sincere support for the defence of our territory and non-recognition of the so-called state of Kosovo.

The head of the Azerbaijani delegation, Malahat Ibrahimgizi pointed out the similar fate of Azerbaijan, regarding Nagorno-Karabakh, stressing that the two countries’ mutual support is extremely important.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Rodoljub Stanimirovic, Danijela Vujicic and MA Jadranka Jovanovic, who emphasised the importance of respecting international law and mutual support at the multilateral level within international institutions and forums.

The officials jointly assessed that the cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan is important for energy security and that there is a common interest in the further development of economic, trade and cooperation in the fields of culture and sports.
