Meeting Held on Status and Perspectives of Social Dialogue in European Union and Serbia
Today, the National Assembly hosted a meeting between the MPs and representatives of the European Police Union and Police Union of Serbia on the “Status and Perspectives of Social Dialogue in the European Union and Serbia”.
Greeting the participants, National Assembly Deputy Secretary General Radoslav Vujovic stressed that the very fact that such an important meeting is taking place in Belgrade proves that Serbia is considered a country with the highest democratic standards. The National Assembly plays a major role in the harmonisation of regulations with European Union regulations, in particular regulations in the sphere of labour legislation aimed at promoting the rights of employees, preventing social crises and improving social dialogue, concluded Vujovic.
European Police Union Secretary General Gerrit van de Kamp stressed the key role the police union plays in social dialogue as it bridges the gap between the society and Government.
President of the Police Union of Serbia Veljko Mijailovic said that the lives of police officers’ families were difficult before the establishment of the union and conclusion of the collective contract which significantly improved the rights of police workers in Serbia.
MP Vladimir Marinkovic said that the National Assembly ratified the revised European Social Charter in 2009 and commended the police workers’ collective contract, which is a model for many countries in the region. Marinkovic stressed that we have to continue to strive for more humane working conditions, development of social dialogue and further harmonisation of the legislation with European standards.
In the ensuing discussion the MPs posed questions about the creation process of the Serbian Army’s union.
The European Police Union is a representative police union of EU countries, and this year, from 17 to 19 October, it is holding its regular annual assembly in Belgrade.
