Marija Obradovic on Role of Parliament in Democratic Control of Security Sector
At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MP Marija Obradovic, Chairperson of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee, took part in the panel discussion held at the OSCE HQ in Vienna on 27 September 2017, entitled “The role of parliaments in the democratic control of the armed and security forces”.
As one of the keynote speakers, Marija Obradovic, presented the position and role of the National Assembly in the supervision of the security sector in the Republic of Serbia, as well as the key legal and parliamentary mechanisms at the Assembly/MPs’ disposal in the pursuit of their oversight duty over the executive. She emphasized the importance of the established practice of having the relevant ministers appear before the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee to respond to the MPs’ questions related to their work.
The panel discussion was held under the auspices of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation, chaired by the Republic of Serbia from 6 September to 20 December 2017.
