Interns of Project Internship Program for Young People – Minorities in Public Institutions in Serbia Visit National Assembly
The National Assembly Speaker, MA Nebojsa Stefanovic, Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, Meho Omerovic, and the Chairman of the Committee on Administrative, Budgetary, Mandate and Immunity Issues, Zoran Babic, received today 12 interns, members of the Albanian, Bosniak, Hungarian and Roma national minority, participants of the project “Internship program for young people – minorities in public institutions in Serbia“.
National Assembly Speaker MA Nebojsa Stefanovic commended the internship programme for young people - national minorities, stressing how important it is to integrate all Serbian citizens into the institutions of the system. The National Assembly Speaker pointed out that the current assembly legislature contains a considerable number of MPs, members of national minorities, who ran for office on both minority electoral list and majority party electoral lists.
Talking to the interns, the Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, Meho Omerovic, stressed that the legislative framework for minority protection in Serbia follows the highest European standards. Omerovic emphasised how important it is for the young people to continue to work at the institutions which are the pillar of the state even after the completion of the internship programme.
In the course of the meeting, the interns showed interest in the role the National Assembly and its committees play in the implementation of projects realised as part of the Decade of Roma, as well as the National Assembly’s role in Serbia’s European integration.
The six-month internship within the project “Internship program for young people – minorities in public institutions in Serbia“ is conducted by the Office for Human and Minority Rights of the Republic of Serbia.
