IAO International Secretariat Members and Committee Chairpersons Meeting Held in Istanbul

MP Aleksandar Cotric, member of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) and member of the organisation’s International Secretariat, took part in the regular joint meeting of the members of the International Secretariat and IAO Committee Chairpersons, held in Istanbul, from 2 to 4 March 2013.


The meeting, attended, besides the National Assembly’s standing delegation, by MPs from the Russian Federation, Greece, Cyprus, Poland, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Egypt, focused on the IAO’s activities and results achieved in the previous period, as well as the upcoming activities, first of all the celebration of the organisation’s 20th anniversary. To mark the IAO’s 20th anniversary, the organisation plans to invite the parliament speakers of all the member states to the upcoming IAO General Assembly which will be held in Athens, from 27 June to 1 July 2013. The participants also discussed the participation in and the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan, to be held in Nis, Serbia, in October 2013.
The members of the International Secretariat and IAO Committee Chairpersons also met with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The member of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to IAO, Aleksandar Cotric also took part in the conference on “The social dimension of monotheistic religions”, organised by IAO and attended by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, IAO President and member of the Russian State Duma Sergei Popov, IAO Secretary General and member of the Hellenic Parliament Anastasios Nerantzis, Deputy Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Maria Kollia-Tsaroucha, and the members of the parliaments of Poland, Egypt, Turkey, members of the European Parliament, as well as numerous sociologists, theologians and lawyers.
