UNDP representatives Sergej Anagnosti, Zorica Mrsevic and Danijela Djurovic briefed Chairman Omerovic on the activities implemented within SEESAC aimed at a strategic approach to addressing the issue of natural disaster risk reduction. A roundtable is to be organised on the occasion, on 12 October, to mark the day for natural disaster risk reduction and at the same time present strategies and ideas to resolve problems of this kind, said the UNDP representatives. They informed the Committee Chairman that Serbia was the site of a study on natural disaster risk reduction and gender equality aimed at coming up with recommendations applicable in the field.

The Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Meho Omerovic said that the Committee cooperated with the Serbian Interior Ministry’s Emergency Situation Sector and emphasised the importance of the Committee’s role in controlling the implementation of the laws in the field.

The meeting also touched on the issues of promoting gender equality in the sphere of natural disaster risk reduction.

The officials agreed that both sexes should be represented in the process of prevention, data collection and logistics in the sphere of natural disaster risk reduction, the public should be kept better informed on the job availability in the sphere and examples of good practice should be introduced into Serbian society.
