High-School Seniors at National Assembly

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic welcomed the senior students of the Third and Eighth grammar school to the National Assembly House and opened the debate organised within the framework of the public access programme launched with the beginning of the National Assembly’s 13th legislature.

The project was initiated by the Cabinet of the National Assembly Speaker and the Group for Education and Presentation of the National Assembly Heritage, realised with the support of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

Dr Orlic greeted the students, hoping that they would learn about the segment of labour law concerning the youth in an interesting and useful manner, as well as the organisation of the National Assembly’s work and the legislative procedure. “We will discuss a topic which is of special importance for you, young people. You will have the opportunity to present you views and ideas and fight for them through debate – just like in a real plenary discussion”, said the National Assembly.

He said he was pleased to see the programme continue the long-standing tradition of the “open doors” practice. “The edifice you are in now is a monument of our country’s history and culture, the home of every citizen of Serbia where a special place belongs to you where you are always welcome. You are our country’s future and everything we do is for you, every result we proudly speak of, we in the Assembly, the ministers in the Government, the President of the Republic, every new high-way, new factory, clinical centre – now belong to you. We have made all this to serve you first of all and remain in your possession tomorrow, for you to care for it and build on its foundations, to live your dreams and be successful in your Serbia” said Dr Orlic, once again welcoming the seniors and wishing them a fruitful debate.

In today’s debate, the senior students were be split into two groups and discussed that articles of the Labour Law that concern the employment of minors and persons who have just come of age.
