Head of the PFG with Iran meets with Iranian Ambassador to Serbia

In his talk with the newly-appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Serbia H.E. Hossein Molla Abdollahi, Meho Omerovic, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Iran, stressed that the two countries had intensified relations in the past year and a half and that he was sure the already successful overall cooperation would continue to improve.

Omerovic said that the Republic of Serbia was ready to deepen the relations, concretize cooperation through projects and establish closer parliamentary cooperation through reciprocal visits by high officials and parliamentary friendship groups. He added that trade, economic and cultural exchange hide a vast potential for cooperation, evidenced in the Serbia-Iran chamber of commerce which aims to contribute to better cooperation between the two countries’ businesspeople.

Omerovic also took the opportunity to thank the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support of Serbia’s territorial integrity in Kosovo-Metohija and voting against Kosovo’s UNSECO bid, adding that he believed it would do the same at this year’s vote.

H.E. Hossein Molla Abdollahi agreed that the climate was more than favourable to improve political, economic and social cooperation, and that meetings between the two countries’ parliamentary friendship groups would promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Omerovic added that closer cooperation between the PFGs would facilitate the ratification of the agreements already being drafted concerning the political and economic development of the two countries.

The Iranian Ambassador also announced the talks on reciprocal visa abolition and introduction of direct flights between Belgrade and Tehran. He stressed that the Iranian Cultural Centre in Belgrade is working on promoting the Iranian cultural heritage and that he expected the opening of Serbian tourist agencies in Iran.

The officials agreed that the vast array of measures implemented would result in an even better overall cooperation.
