Head of PFG with Japan Meets with Japanese Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Japan Dunja Simonovic Bratic met today with Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Akira Imamura.

The officials emphasised the importance of advancing parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Japan with the expectation that it will continue to develop in the coming period. PFG Head Bratic underlined the strong friendly relations between the two countries evidenced by the many high-level state visits, which will be crowned by upcoming visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to Japan around the middle of the month.

Speaking of Serbia’s strategic goals, the Head of the PFG with Japan stressed that Serbia remains committed to its European path, with the Ambassador adding his strong support in that matter and dedication to the further promotion of the two countries relations, especially in light of the fact that we are nearing the 145th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Simonovic Bratic also spoke about the challenges Serbia has long faced on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija, through continuous violations of human and property rights, as well as permanent threats to fundamental freedoms. Ambassador Imamura emphasised that Japan is focused on future development processes and encouraging regional cooperation as a prerequisite for lasting stability in the Balkans.

The officials also discussed the organisation of the upcoming World Exhibition EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, and Dunja Simonovic Bratic expressed hope that Japan would provide support to Serbia with its experience, considering that it has already successfully organised this prestigious event.

Speaking about economic cooperation, PFG Head Bratic expressed her expectation of further inflow of Japanese investments into Serbia, while the Ambassador cited examples of successful companies that have been operating in our country for many years.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on the current geopolitical situation, as well as internal social and political challenges in Serbia, with the shared assessment that constructive dialogue is the only way to resolve them.
