Head of PFG with Germany Meets with Group of German Students

Vesna Markovic, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany, met today at the National Assembly House with a group of German students to discuss the two countries’ bilateral relations.

The students informed the PFG Head that in the course of their stay in Belgrade they will have the opportunity to talk to representatives of the institutions and civil society organizations in order to learn more about Serbia. They showed particular interest in the bilateral relations between Serbia and Germany, the European integration process, Serbia’s expectations as regards the coming elections in Germany, as well as the electoral process in Serbia, the Parliament and the relationship between the ruling parties and the opposition in it.

Markovic informed the students that the 86-member Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany is one of the biggest in the National Assembly. She stressed that the Federal Republic of Germany as the key EU country is one of Serbia’s chief foreign policy partners in the Euro-integration process, as well as one of the biggest investors in the country currently providing employment for more than 35,000 Serbian citizens. Speaking of the coming elections in Germany she mentioned the ongoing cooperation between the current German Government and Serbia hoping that the winning political option would continue to provide support to Serbia on the path to EU accession.

Markovic concluded that in the previous period Serbia has done a lot to establish European values, stabilize public finance and reform the society and would continue to step ups its efforts to reform the judiciary and strengthen the rule of law, as well as promote the country’s economic development which would boost the citizens standard of living.

Finally, Markovic thanked the students for the constructive talk and wished them a pleasant stay in Serbia.
