Head of PFG with Egypt Receives Red Sea Governorate Delegation

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Egypt Dubravka Filipovski met today with a delegation of the Red Sea Governorate headed by Governor Ahmed Abdullah.

PFG Head Filipovski said that Serbia appreciates Egypt’s support of its territorial integrity as a country which had not established diplomatic relations with the so-called state of Kosovo.

“We appreciate your principled stance very much as it reflects our two countries’ firm friendship”, said Filipovski.

She added that each National Assembly legislature had in the past two decades boasted a PFG with Egypt which is a testament to the traditionally good relations between the two countries. Filipovski said that this year saw the 110th anniversary of bilateral relations between Serbia and Egypt and on the occasion the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Arab Republic of Egypt visited the National Assembly and addressed the MPs in a special sitting. The occasion was also marked by an exhibition about the diplomatic relations between the two countries and the days of Egypt, an event held across Serbia.

Filipovski said she hoped the Egyptian Parliament would set up a PFG with Serbia and announced a visit of a National Assembly delegation to Egypt next year. She said that there is room to advance cooperation in the fields of education, student exchange and sports. This delegation is visiting Serbia thanks to the cooperation protocols signed between the Serbian and Egyptian ministries, especially those in charge of tourism, said Filipovski and wished the guests successful cooperation.

Governor Ahmed Abdullah said that Egypt wishes to advance cooperation with Serbia across the board and one step toward it the twinning agreement between Jagodina and the town of Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. He informed the PFG Head about the meetings the delegation comprising businessmen and tourism representatives had with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and businessmen and the wish to share their tourist-related experiences with Serbian colleagues. He reminded everybody about the traditionally good relations between the two countries dating back to the Non-Aligned Movement aimed at the Egyptian people showing respect to the Serbian people.

“The role of us as politicians is to facilitate, at the political level, communication between the representatives of the business sector”, concluded Governor Abdullah and invited the PFG with Egypt to visit Hurghada.

The meeting with the delegation of the Red Sea Governorate was also attended by PFG member Bojan Torbica.
