Gojkovic with Hungarian Parliament Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with Hungarian Parliament Speaker Laszlo Kover at the 8th Conference of Speakers of Parliament of the Countries of the Western Balkans in Budapest.

On the occasion Gojkovic thanked the Hungarian Parliament Speaker for his country’s support of Serbia’s path to EU accession and friendly belief that Serbia deserves to become an EU member state.

Gojkovic and Kover also spoke about the challenges faced by the European Union, and Gojkovic said that Serbia, which is determined to join the organization, closely follows the European dignitaries’ messages and is encouraged by their opinion that the enlargement policy for the Western Balkans region maintains its continuity despite these challenges and that the EU has not given up on it.

Gojkovic said that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is predominantly in favour of EU integration, but the citizens who support that policy want to know what are the perspectives of European integration, which is also Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s clear message.

Gojkovic said that Serbia is dedicated to the implementation of EU standards, stressing that the national minorities living in Serbia are yet another bridge to the European Union.

Gojkovic and Kover also discussed other topics of common interest, and the National Assembly Speaker invited Kover to visit Serbia as that would be an excellent opportunity to further enhance the already unprecedented high level of relations.
