Gojkovic and Moroccan Parliament Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco Habib El Malki who attended the reception in honour of Aleksandar Vucic taking the office of President of Serbia, on the behalf of the Kingdom of Morocco.


Gojkovic emphasized how much she appreciates the Speaker's attending the ceremony which she sees as an affirmation of the good and friendly relations between Serbia and Morocco which are this year marking the 60 years of diplomatic relations.

Gojkovic and El Malki stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation for the improvement of overall relations between the two countries. To develop these further Gojkovic invited El Malki to pay an official visit to Serbia, and the Moroccan Parliament Speaker thanked her for her personal efforts on developing relations with African states.

Gojkovic thanked the Kingdom of Morocco for not recognizing the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija stressing that the Serbian side is dedicated to dialogue with Pristina and implementation of the achieved agreements, most importantly the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities. Gojkovic added that Serbia also greatly appreciates the Kingdom of Morocco's vote against Kosovo's UNESCO bid, reminding the Moroccan Parliament Speaker of the systematic destruction of Serbian cultural heritage on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija. El Malki said that the Kingdom of Morocco fully supports the implementation of international law and the protection of Serbia's territorial integrity.

The Moroccan Parliament Speaker said that the visit to Serbia assured him that this is a country turned to the future, that the Kingdom of Morocco truly wishes to see Serbia become an EU member state, and that the reforms underway are helping it reach EU levels of development.

The two parliament speakers agreed to urge for the development of economic, agricultural, tourist and trade cooperation in view of the many potentials, and in that context stressed the importance of the initiative to start a direct flight between the two countries.
