The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, currently visiting Serbia.
Gojkovic also stressed that Serbia is dedicated to reform and improvement of regional cooperation, and that the Parliament is the Government’s partner in the matter.
Mattarella said that Serbia has crossed a “long and brave” road of reform and endorsed the speedy opening of negotiations on Serbia’s EU accession, recognising the efforts the country has invested in it.
“The Union has to respond to Serbia’s decisive efforts toward EU integration”, said Mattarella.
The Italian President pointed out that Serbia is a factor of peace and stability in the Western Balkans, which Italy is especially appreciative of.
Mattarella emphasised the role of the National Assembly in the Euro-integration process and promotion of regional stability.
After the meeting with the National Assembly Speaker, the Italian President addressed the MPs at a special parliament sitting.
