Gojkovic and Gambian Foreign Minister

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gambia Ousainou Darboe.

Gojkovic thanked the Gambian Foreign Minister for visiting Serbia stressing that his visit, the first by a dignitary from this African country, opens new doors of cooperation across the board.

The Parliament Speaker highlighted the interest in developing international cooperation at the level of working bodies, parliamentary delegations to international parliamentary organizations, as well as at the highest parliamentary levels, stating that the National Assembly stands ready to contribute to the development of overall cooperation by ratifying any agreements initiated by the two countries’ governments.

Gojkovic said that the Memorandum of Interparliamentary Cooperation between the National Assembly and the Pan-African Parliament signed in 2017 provides a solid platform for the development of relations.

The National Assembly Speaker thanked the Minister for the announced re-evaluation of the decision to recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija, saying that Serbia hoped for a positive outcome, in line with international law and in the interest of dialogue.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gambia said that the country’s leadership is re-evaluating a series of foreign policy decisions made by the previous government, especially the decision to recognize the independence of Kosovo-Metohija, stating that Gambia wishes to advance relations with Serbia both at the bilateral and multilateral level on the basis of mutual trust and respect.

Darboe said that the objective of his visit is to strengthen and concretize the relations between the two countries, adding that the future cooperation between the parliaments would greatly contribute to strengthening ties between Serbia and Gambia.
