Gojkovic Meets with NATO Parliamentary Assembly President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Paolo Alli, visiting Serbia as part of the delegation of the Sub-Committee on Transition and Development of the NATO PA Economics and Security Committee working on the report entitled "Economic Transition in the Western Balkans".

Gojkovic took the opportunity to point out that the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the NATO PA takes regular and active part in the organization's work, like for example in the recent spring session in Tbilisi. She said that she expected the report to be balanced and constructive in view of Serbia's regional cooperation efforts, progress in economic reform and European integration, and its role in tackling the migrant crisis.

Gojkovic said that Serbia is committed to its policy of military neutrality within the framework of which it is developing its cooperation with NATO, using the available mechanisms of the Partnership for Peace, and thus contributing to the maintenance of regional stability.

The National Assembly Speaker said that the election results in Kosovo-Metohija present a challenge to the talks with Pristina, to which the Serbian side is fully committed and would insist on the implementation of the agreements achieved, such as the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.

NATO PA President Paolo Alli emphasized the importance of cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, saying the organization is attentive to the Western Balkans since the stability of this region is essential for the stability of all of Europe, and Serbia is the key country in it. Alli said that Serbia's cooperation with NATO is significant as regards the common challenges such as terrorism, migrant crisis, cyber security and many, many more.

The NATO PA President underlined the importance of Serbia's Euro-integration, saying that Europe would not be whole without the integration of the Western Balkans and that Serbia has achieved significant progress in economy and financial stability in the last few years.
