Gojkovic Meets with Indian Vice-President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with Vice-President of India and Chairman of the Council of States (upper house of the Indian Parliament) M. The Serbian Assembly Speaker said that this friendship and support oblige the two countries to keep advancing bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest, adding that she believes today’s visit would open a new chapter in the history of the relations.

Gojkovic said that the visit also opens new opportunities for the development of interparliamentary cooperation and the parliamentarians as representatives of the people would contribute to the strengthening of relations and cooperate more extensively at the level of working bodies in charge of the economy, transportation, energy, tourism and culture, adding that the Serbian Assembly is ready to ratify any agreements reached in these fields.

Gojkovic thanked India for its firm, principled and consistent stance on Kosovo-Metohija, stressing that it is a state known for its principled position on international law.

The Vice-President of India said that his country is proud of the historically good relations with Serbia, founded in trust and understanding, pointing out that there is ample room to expand them.

Naidu highlighted the importance of economic cooperation, speaking of the many Indian companies investing into Serbia which he hoped would continue to operate successfully and help create new jobs and fortify the relations between the two countries even further.

The Indian Vice-President said that trade is on the rise and offers new opportunities for cooperation in the fields of pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, food industry and many others and went on to thank Serbia for abolishing visas for Indian citizens.
