Gojkovic Meets with Chinese National People's Congress Vice-Chairperson

On the first day of her official visit to China, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met with the Vice-Chairperson of the Chinese National People's Congress Shen Yueyue.


Gojkovic stressed that the bilateral relations between Serbia and China are characterized by friendship, trust and support in all matters of importance and that furthering the comprehensive strategic partnership and overall cooperation remains among Serbia’s number one priorities.

Shen Yueyue said that China and Serbia share a traditionally deep friendship developed through intensive meetings of their respective dignitaries, emphasizing in that context the importance of the successful visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Serbia in 2016 when the overall cooperation was raised to the level of strategic partnership.

Maja Gojkovic and Shen Yueyue stressed that cooperation between legislative institutions is an important segment of the development of the overall strategic partnership between Serbia and China opining that the ongoing cooperation under the auspices of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed during the visit of the Chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang to Serbia in July was very successful.

The National Assembly Speaker and the Vice-Chairperson of the Chinese National People's Congress agreed that the establishment of the interparliamentary commission planned by the Protocol of Cooperation which is to be signed tomorrow during the National Assembly Speaker’s meeting with the Chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang would help promote the relations between the two countries.

Gojkovic thanked PR China for its support of Serbia on many issues of national interest and of its territorial integrity and sovereignty i.e. non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.

The Vice-Chairperson of the Chinese National People's Congress said that the ongoing development of political relations is accompanied by the development of trade and economic cooperation and highlighted Serbia’s involvement in the Belt and Road projects and China-CIES format where Serbia has a leading role. Gojkovic said that Serbia is proud to be part of the Belt and Road initiative and China-CIES which have enabled a number of infrastructural projects.

Gojkovic said she was most grateful for the invitation to China so soon after the visit of the Chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang to Serbia, which is a testament to the two countries’ dedication to the development of cooperation.

Today, Gojkovic also visited ZTE Corporation, one of the global leaders in innovation and talked to its managers about their development plans and business plans in Serbia.

The National Assembly Delegation also comprises Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic and PFG members MA Jadranka Jovanovic and Dragomir Karic.
