Gojkovic Meets with Armenian Parliament Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ara Babloyan in Saint Petersburg where she is attending the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union session.

Gojkovic and Babloyan talked about promoting overall bilateral relations in view of the two nations’ centuries-long friendship.

The National Assembly Speaker said that the political dialogue has been intensified in the last few years, an endeavour greatly assisted by the parliaments, and underlined the importance of intensifying interparliamentary cooperation further.

The Armenian Parliament Speaker said that the relations are good and that, in addition to politics, they should be strengthened in other spheres such as economy and culture, stressing that Serbia is a particularly important country in Europe for Armenia and his people remember Serbia’s friendship throughout history.

Gojkovic thanked Armenia for not recognizing the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija and supporting Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the Armenian Parliament Speaker said his country would continue to support Serbia in line with international law.

Gojkovic also hoped that the Armenian Parliament Speaker would visit Serbia which would be an excellent opportunity to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation to help concretize the ties between the parliamentary committees and standing delegations.
