The Committee on Labour, Ex-Servicemen’s and Social Issues held its fourteenth sitting on 16 July, under the chairmanship of Meho Omerovic, Committee Chairman. The sitting was attended by the State Secretaries of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Nemanja, Komazec and Bojan Djuric, and associates, and Djordje Mojovic, Urban Development Programme director.

The Committee members considered the Bill on Social Housing, submitted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

State Secretary Komazec stressed that the purpose of the law is to create the conditions for sustained development of social housing, i.e. to find the appropriate manner of resolving the housing issues of families which are prevented from ensuring housing under the market conditions by social, economic and other reasons. Komazec added that the law aims to establish basic institutional and strategic pre-conditions for the development of a social housing system in the Republic of Serbia.

After they had completed the discussion, the members of the Committee on Labour, Ex-Servicemen’s and Social Issues accepted the Bill on Social Housing, in principle, by a majority of votes, with the reserved opinions of Zlata Djeric and Aleksandar Pejcic.
