The Committee on Health and the Family held its forty-sixth sitting on 10 May 2011. The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Dr Paja Momcilov and attended by Minister of Health Prof. Dr Zoran Stankovic and associates and President of the Health Council of Serbia Prof. Dr Dragan Delic.

The Committee members considered the Information on the Ministry’s activities in the period January-March 2011. The discussion focused on waiting lists, abuse of post in some health care institutions, voluntary insurance as well as additional work for doctors. Minister Stankovic informed the Committee members on the Belgrade Clinical Centre reconstruction project for which 102 million EUR was secured. The reconstruction will include the fortification of the bearing pillars and walls so that the building would be more resistant to stronger earthquakes. The Committee also talked about the arrests of medical workers for the abuse of position, and Minister Stankovic stressed that the systematic corruption in the health care system is currently under investigation.

The Committee members went on to consider the petitions sent to the Committee on Health and the Family by citizens and organisations.
