Foreign Affairs and European Integration Committee Chairmen Meet with Slovak Acting Minister of Foreign and European Affairs

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic and European Integration Committee Chairman Nenad Canak met today at the National Assembly House with the Acting Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Ivan Korcok to discuss Serbia’s European integration.


European Integration Committee Chairman Nenad Canak said that EU accession is Serbia’s priority and in the previous period the country had achieved considerable success in the process, having opened 12 and prepared additional three chapters. He said that Slovakia’s experiences concerning the harmonization of the national with European integration are most useful to Serbia. He also emphasized the importance of regional cooperation among the countries of the Western Balkans in the European integration process.

Speaking of Serbia’s EU accession Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic said that Kosovo-Metohija remains the biggest challenge. By signing the Brussels Agreement Serbia wanted to find a sustainable solution for all the people living on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija through dialogue. He said that the failure to establish the Community of Serb Municipalities, as per the Brussels Agreement, for the fifth year running is worrying and asked for EU’s support in making sure the Albanian side abides by the Agreement. He also thanked Slovakia for not recognizing the self-declared independence of Kosovo.

Acting Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Ivan Korcok said that Slovakia fully supports Serbia’s European integration adding that EU enlargement is in the interest of both the Western Balkan states and the Union itself. Dialogue with Pristina and coming to a solution acceptable for all the people living in Kosovo-Metohija is essential, said Korcok.
