Foreign Affairs Committee Members Meet with Speaker of Parliament of Guinea-Bissau

The members of the Foreign Affairs Committee met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Speaker of the Parliament of Guinea-Bissau Cipriano Cassama, currently in official visit to Serbia.

Speaking of the traditionally good relations between the two countries, the Speaker of the Parliament of Guinea-Bissau stressed that Serbia has his country’s firm support as regards its territorial integrity and the status of Kosovo-Metohija, which clearly demonstrates that Guinea-Bissau respects international law and UN decisions.

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic thanked Guinea-Bissau for its support of Serbia’s territorial integrity hoping that it would not change its stance. He briefed the guest on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija stressing that Serbia is committed to resolve the situation through dialogue with Pristina in accordance with the Brussels Agreement, but the other side does not abide by it since it is yet to establish the Community of Serb Municipalities.

The Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman said that EU accession is Serbia’s foreign policy priority, as is the maintenance of good relations and cooperation with the Russian Federation, People’s Republic of China and the USA.

Obradovic said that Serbia is proud of its shared history with Guinea-Bissau dating back to the times of SFRY, adding that it is important to work on advancing relations across the board, and especially in the spheres of education, economy and agriculture.

The officials also discussed strengthening cooperation in international parliamentary organizations to offer reciprocal support on issues of importance.

They agreed that intensifying interparliamentary cooperation, especially through visits of parliamentary friendship groups, would be mutually beneficial.
