Fifth Sitting of the Committee on the Rights of the Child
At the sitting held on 9 June 2025, the members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child considered the Bill on the Exercise of Rights from the Alimony Fund, submitted by MP Ana Brnabic.
The Bill was presented by Committee Deputy Chairperson Zagorka Aleksic, who said that its aim is to establish a system that will provide children with the necessary financial support in times when a parent or other relative does not fulfil their obligation to support them, and collection is difficult. It is supposed to establish an alimony fund, as a budgetary fund, which will be managed by the ministry responsible for family protection, and the funds will be provided from the budget of the Republic of Serbia, donations and other revenues, Aleksic said. The state will have the right to recover the funds paid from the debtor, with interest, she added, adding that that this law will apply to already initiated maintenance proceedings, if enforcement has not been carried out within two months of the law entering into force.
Following a discussion, the Committee accepted the Bill on the Exercise of Rights from the Alimony Fund, in principle.
