Fifth Sitting of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality

At the sitting held on 29 May, the members of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality discussed the Commissioner for Protection of Equality 2013 Regular Annual Report.


The Annual Report was presented by Dr Nevena Petrusic, Commissioner for Protection of Equality. On the occasion, she said that the Annual Report contains an overview of the activities and key problems. Expounding the Report, Petrusic stressed that 716 procedures based on complaints have been launched in the course of 2013, which is 25% more than in 2012. The most frequent personal characteristic listed as source of discrimination was health status, while employment was the field experiencing the most cases of discrimination.

In the course of the discussion the Committee members asked about how to improve the status of national minority members and the measure proposals recommended by the Commissioner for Protection of Equality.

The Committee members proceeded to appoint Ljiljana Malusic representative of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality at the Commission Monitoring the Execution of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Serbia (2010-2015).

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Meho Omerovic.
