European Integration Committee Members Meet with French Senate Delegation

The Chairman and members of the European Integration Committee met today at the National Assembly with the delegation of the French Senate’s Committee for European Affairs currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia.

European Integration Committee Chairman Nenad Canak said that the majority of MPs are in agreement as regards Serbia’s European integration and there is little difference between the ruling majority and the opposition in that regard. Canak stated that the EU needs redefining, that it should go back to the ideas of peace and cooperation, and by joining Serbia can contribute to peace, security and EU’s core principles.

The Chairman of the French Senate’s Committee for European Affairs Jean Bizet said that France supports Serbia’s European integration and pays special attention to it because Serbia is one of the key countries in the Western Balkan region. We are aware of the efforts Serbia is investing in its reform processes, said Bizet adding that Serbia is also aware that it needs to work on strengthening the rule of law, media freedom and Negotiation Chapter 35.

European Integration Committee members Gordana Comic, Dusica Stojkovic, Vesna Markovic, Elvira Kovacs, Dubravka Filipovski and Vladimir Djuric spoke about the challenges facing the European Union with a special focus on the enlargement process. The European Integration Committee members said that EU accession is very important for Serbia, but Serbia is in turn important for the stability of the European Union itself.
